ECOSOC
Agenda: Evaluating the economic implications of the conflict in Venezuela
The UN ECOSOC Committee addresses international economic issues and fosters sustainable development throughout the world. The committee will review the current economic crisis facing Venezuela, characterized by hyperinflation, shortages of essential goods, and large-scale emigration of the population. Delegates will study the major causes of the Venezuelan economic crisis, which include over-reliance on oil, mismanagement of the economy, and outside pressures from different countries and discuss how Venezuela has affected its neighbors and the world to create long-term sustainable peace in the region.

Director
Say hello to Ahaan Kapadia, someone who simply can’t put down his love for MUN (and yes this is a reference to his favourite artist– Dave Blunts). His love for MUN leaks into his thoughtful POIs, elegantly dramatic speeches, and of course, his use of Katy Perry songs. He is truly like a Firework in committee and he makes his competition feel like a plastic bag. However don’t let his fierce nature fool you, talking to him will make you sing Lalala like Baby No Money. As a chair, he is without a doubt your biggest asset, with him being highly approachable with brilliant insights. He loves dramatics in speeches, paired with FACTS; they must be everywhere. To get on Ahaan’s good side (which isn’t difficult), anything ranging from agreeing with his appalling choice of sports teams (Tottenham, Williams, and the Philadelphia 76ers), to appreciating his abilities, including but not limited to his weird obsession for Brawlhalla and capacity to eat quesadillas (or any other food he wants to eat that hour) will do. Ahaan, like his favourite movie, is the whole Package, and with him as your chair, you are guaranteed an engaging and beautiful committee! (Written by Ayaan Wadhwa)

Meet Vihaan Rai (more commonly known as Vrai). A seasoned MUN delegate who’s been doing conferences since 5th grade, he’s pretty well-versed in ROP and generally knows exactly what he’s doing in committee. From somehow outpowering the USA in DISEC while representing Portugal, he’s the type of delegate who will make sure he asks a POI on every one of your speeches. Even though this might be his first time chairing, his experience in DISEC and UNHRC definitely makes up for it. His most memorable committee moment was when he yelled out Islamic slurs at what he called ‘not the holy trinity, the harami trinity’, an alliance of ISIS, Al Qaeda, and Pakistan (the EB did bar him but gave him a chocolate while leaving).
Outside committee, he also plays football, so don’t be surprised if he decides to check VAR on a resolution he suspects was AI-generated. As chair, he’ll be looking at your preparation, spontaneity, how you speak during open floors, how you deal with crises, and how you make yourself relevant in the committee. Trust him - he’ll appreciate you a lot more if you somehow manage to reference Liverpool in your speeches.
He’s also known for his slightly concerning grade standards, being the kind of person who treats anything below a 7 like a national crisis. Nevertheless, he hopes to make his first time chairing a memorable experience for everyone. (Written by Shauryavir Agarwal)

Hi everyone, I’ve done around 15 MUNs so far, this being my third time chairing, and somehow managed to pick up about 13 awards along the way. I’m usually known for aggressive debating, a lot of speeches, way too many POIs, and very active lobbying, so I definitely enjoy committees that are loud, competitive, and slightly chaotic in a good way. Most of my MUN experience has been as a delegate, so I know exactly how boring the committee can get when people don’t participate — which is why I’m hoping this one is the complete opposite. I want this committee to be fast-paced, interactive, and actually fun, with good debate, strong arguments, and at least a little bit of drama (the academic kind, of course). If everyone puts in the effort, I’m pretty sure this is going to be a mad interesting committee and a very memorable one for all of us.
