DISEC
Agenda: Border Security in Central Asia
Central Asia's borders are among the most volatile and complex frontiers in the world, shaped by Soviet-era demarcation failures, ethnic fault lines, and the cascading security consequences of instability in Afghanistan. In this committee, delegates will examine the overlapping threats driving border insecurity across the region, from narcotics trafficking and Islamist militancy to inter-state territorial disputes and the competing strategic interests of major powers. Through debate, participants will weigh the tensions between state sovereignty and collective security, consider the roles of organizations such as the CSTO and SCO, and work toward frameworks that address both immediate security concerns and the deeper structural conditions that make Central Asian borders so difficult to govern.

Director
Ah yes, Vihaan S.M. Where do I start? To begin with, his tendency to come up with some of the most moving and passionate speeches that a committee would see in any of its sessions, armed with his in depth research (a grand total of 4 pages), knowing the UN Charter like it’s the back of his hand, and his witty insults to the incompetence of any country challenging his stance. He loves to poke holes (and reveal some existing ones) in other delegates’ arguments using some points of information he travelled through 4 dimensions to acquire, and some (most*) may even be annoyed at his tendency to regularly raise points of order on factual inaccuracies. However, even if you don’t even know what these terms mean, don’t be afraid, as Vihaan is one of the kindest, most helpful and enthusiastic chairs you will ever meet. Be it a question about what an MUN is, guidance for your research, procedural questions or anything else, he is always willing to lend a helping hand and never judges. On a side note, if you want to earn some brownie points from him, he could talk for hours on end about his love for Rush, playing the guitar, coding, or absolutely anything, because he’ll have substance to talk about. So don’t be afraid of the 6’1” (6’1.8”, basically 6’2”) appearance, as a committee with Vihaan will make any delegate, new or experienced, feel like they’re right at home. (Written by Vihaan S.M.)

Meet Vihaan Rai (more commonly known as Vrai). A seasoned MUN delegate who’s been doing conferences since 5th grade, he’s pretty well-versed in ROP and generally knows exactly what he’s doing in committee. From somehow outpowering the USA in DISEC while representing Portugal, he’s the type of delegate who will make sure he asks a POI on every one of your speeches. Even though this might be his first time chairing, his experience in DISEC and UNHRC definitely makes up for it. His most memorable committee moment was when he yelled out Islamic slurs at what he called ‘not the holy trinity, the harami trinity’, an alliance of ISIS, Al Qaeda, and Pakistan (the EB did bar him but gave him a chocolate while leaving).
Outside committee, he also plays football, so don’t be surprised if he decides to check VAR on a resolution he suspects was AI-generated. As chair, he’ll be looking at your preparation, spontaneity, how you speak during open floors, how you deal with crises, and how you make yourself relevant in the committee. Trust him - he’ll appreciate you a lot more if you somehow manage to reference Liverpool in your speeches.
He’s also known for his slightly concerning grade standards, being the kind of person who treats anything below a 7 like a national crisis. Nevertheless, he hopes to make his first time chairing a memorable experience for everyone. (Written by Shauryavir Agarwal)
Roses are red, violets are blue, this guy is a whole new hue!
Greetings fellow delegates, in a cicuit full of comendable chairs, Viyaan Dhanuka offers you something different: a chairing style as adventurous as it is authorarative. Viyaan doesn't watch the debate; he enriches it. With his vast and deep understanding of geo-politics he will ensure that comitee stays fresh, as he will know exactly how to nudge delegates to more thrilling and complex argument. While his sharp wit are a true asset to the conference, the true anchor lies in his incredibly deep understanding of the ROP. He balances the fast-paced, energy-filled environment with impartiality and structure required to ensure every delegate - may they be a novice or a seasoned - has a fair shot at the award. Starting off same as you as you in his first ever MUN, to winning best delegate one year later. He will ensure a session defined by intellectual rigor, expert guidance, and surprising turns. I wish you the best of luck as you move into one of your first MUNs, but you should be rest assured for whether you win a prize or not I can guarantee he will make this your most memorable.
